YOUR FIRST CERTIFICATION

The complete foundation for real open-water freediving.

SSI Freediver is the core beginner certification for people who want to move beyond a one-day experience and learn how to freedive safely with an equally or more-qualified buddy.

At Life Aquatic we combine theory, confined-water skills and open-water depth work with a strong focus on relaxation, equalization, efficient technique, recovery breathing and safe buddy procedures.

Quick answer: SSI sets the minimum age at 12, recommends 16–20 training hours and allows open-water training to a maximum of 20 metres. For 12–14-year-olds, the maximum open-water depth is 12 metres.
Prerequisites: No previous freediving certification is required. You must be fit to swim and complete the required SSI administrative and water-fitness requirements.

WHO THIS IS FOR

Ready to learn freediving as a skill, not just try it once?

SSI Freediver is the right starting point if you want a full beginner certification and the ability to continue training safely after the course.

  • You are a complete beginner who already knows you want certification.
  • You have snorkeling or scuba experience and want proper freediving technique.
  • You want theory, confined-water skills and open-water depth training in one course.

YOUR 3-DAY COURSE

Build the foundations in the right order.

The exact sequence adapts to the diver and conditions, while the required SSI standards remain the foundation of the program.

01

Theory & breathing

Understand pressure, physiology, safe breath-hold preparation and why hyperventilation is avoided.

02

Equalization

Develop a reliable equalization method and learn to equalize early, gently and before discomfort.

03

Confined-water skills

Practice static/dynamic fundamentals, body position, recovery breathing and buddy procedures.

04

Open-water depth

Transfer the skills to the line: duck dive, finning, equalization, turns, ascent control and relaxation.

05

Safety & assessment

Practice rescues, demonstrate the required skills and finish with a clear plan for independent progression.

WHAT YOU DEVELOP

Skills you can take into your next training session.

01

Breathing & relaxation

Build a calm preparation routine and efficient recovery breathing.

02

Equalization

Learn the pressure-management technique needed for controlled descents.

03

Body position & finning

Move through the water with less drag and unnecessary effort.

04

Open-water technique

Use the line, duck dive, descend, turn and ascend with control.

05

Buddy safety

Understand supervision, positioning, communication and rescue fundamentals.

06

Independent progression

Leave with a framework for safe practice after certification.

Course outcome: You leave with an SSI Freediver certification when all standards are met, plus a practical framework for equalization, open-water technique, recovery breathing, buddy supervision and safe independent practice within your training limits.

WHY LIFE AQUATIC IN KAŞ

Small groups. Direct feedback. Skills before numbers.

At Life Aquatic we do not teach beginners to chase 20 metres. We use small course groups, progressive depth and direct feedback so equalization, relaxation and safety remain clean as depth increases.

WHAT WE PRIORITIZE

Technique that still works when the dive gets harder.

We use progressive practice, individual feedback and realistic session goals so the skill you learn is repeatable — not something that only worked once during the course.
