FULL THEORY · CONTROLLED WATER

The Freediver foundation — without the open-water depth sessions.

Pool Freediver is ideal if you want more than Basic Freediver but are not ready, able or interested in completing the open-water portion of SSI Freediver yet.

You complete the Freediver academic material, breathing work and the required pool/confined-water skill sessions. The emphasis is on breath-hold comfort, efficient movement, recovery breathing, buddy supervision and rescue procedures in a controlled environment.

Quick answer: SSI Pool Freediver is available from age 12, recommends 12–14 hours, includes at least two pool/confined-water sessions and has a maximum training depth of 5 metres.
Prerequisites: No previous freediving certification is required. You must meet SSI participation, administrative and water-fitness requirements.

WHO THIS IS FOR

Want the full beginner skill set, but not the open-water depth component yet?

Pool Freediver is a strong choice when you want a real, autonomous pool/confined-water certification and a clean path toward SSI Freediver later.

  • You want to learn the full Freediver academics and confined-water skills.
  • You want to train breath-hold, technique and safety without open-water depth sessions.
  • You want a certification that can later be upgraded to SSI Freediver.

LIFE AQUATIC 2-DAY FORMAT

One day to understand it. One day to put it into practice.

Our normal Pool Freediver format separates the academic foundation from the practical confined-water work so students have time to understand, practice and ask questions without rushing.

01

Freediver theory

Breath-hold physiology, pressure, safe preparation, equalization, equipment, recovery and the buddy system.

02

Breathing session

Build a calm preparation routine, understand relaxation and practice recovery breathing without hyperventilation.

03

Static & dynamic skills

Develop comfort, streamlining, finning and controlled breath-hold work in pool/confined water.

04

Buddy procedures

Practice active supervision, positioning, communication and the safety procedures required for autonomous pool training.

05

Assessment & upgrade plan

Complete the required skills and leave with a clear pathway to SSI Freediver if you want to add open-water training later.

WHAT YOU DEVELOP

A complete confined-water foundation.

01

Breath-hold comfort

Use relaxation and a repeatable preparation routine rather than forcing time.

02

Static technique

Understand positioning, relaxation, contractions and clean recovery breathing.

03

Dynamic efficiency

Improve streamlining, finning and movement economy in confined water.

04

Equalization basics

Build the pressure-management foundations used later in open-water depth training.

05

Buddy safety

Learn the supervision and rescue habits required for autonomous pool/confined-water practice.

06

Upgrade readiness

Complete the academic and confined-water requirements you need before adding the SSI Freediver open-water sessions.

Course outcome: Certified Pool Freedivers may freedive autonomously with an equally or more-qualified buddy in pool/confined-water environments and to depths equivalent with their training. Junior divers under 15 must dive with a certified adult or dive professional.

WHY LIFE AQUATIC IN KAŞ

Small groups. Direct feedback. Skills before numbers.

Pool Freediver works best when the instructor can see the small details: breathing pattern, tension, streamlining, finning, recovery and buddy positioning. We use direct feedback and progressive practice rather than turning the course into a breath-hold competition.

THE BIG ADVANTAGE

You can upgrade instead of starting again.

Once Pool Freediver is complete, SSI allows you to upgrade to Freediver by completing the required Open Water Sessions 1 and 2 and their related requirements.

POOL FREEDIVER FAQ

Questions before you start.

What is SSI Pool Freediver?

SSI Pool Freediver is a full recreational freediving certification for pool or confined-water environments. It includes the Freediver academics, breathing work and at least two pool/confined-water sessions, but no open-water depth sessions.

What is the minimum age?

The SSI minimum age is 12 years old.

How deep can a Pool Freediver train?

SSI sets the maximum pool/confined-water depth at 5 metres.

How long does the program take?

SSI recommends 12–14 hours. At Life Aquatic we normally organize it over 2 days: one theory-focused day and one practical confined-water day.

Is Pool Freediver the same as Basic Freediver?

No. Basic Freediver is a shorter entry-level certification with more limited supervision privileges. Pool Freediver completes the full Freediver academic and pool/confined-water requirements and qualifies the diver to freedive autonomously with an equally or more-qualified buddy in pool/confined-water environments.

Can I upgrade from Pool Freediver to SSI Freediver?

Yes. SSI allows Pool Freedivers to upgrade to Freediver by completing Open Water Sessions 1 and 2 and the related requirements.

Do I need previous freediving experience?

No previous freediving certification is required. You must meet the SSI participation and water-fitness requirements.
